The IntensiveThe intensive is located at Greenfield Community College in Greenfield, Massachusetts. Our Summer Ultimate Intensive has been running annually since 2012.
Each year, the intensive provides teaching through fundamentals and skills to excel in the sport of ultimate. We design our program into different sections throughout the day to provide players with optimal improvements to their skills. We sometimes separate by less experienced players and more experienced players. We also sometimes split by gender. We found that these groupings helped participants thrive more by being able to work on the key skills they needed to improve on with their peers. What we do during the week: We start our week off by setting skill goals. We then work on them during concentrated sessions every day. We have mini tournaments, full-field play, contests, and fun layout drills. We also do competitive league play. Players learn techniques for conditioning, flexibility, and how to lead a healthy lifestyle. The Spirit of the Game is an important concept in ultimate and is a focus during our week. We also bring in highly skilled ultimate players to contribute their knowledge and enthusiasm, as well as teach specific skills and insights that they learned on their own teams. Besides our workshops offered by these highly skilled players, we also have a multitude of highly skilled interns to help with teaching and facilitating. This allows our player to staff ratio to be approximately one staff to every four players. This allows a lot of 1-1 instructional time. What to bring: Bring a lunch, snacks, water bottle, cleats (if you have them), light and dark shirts, shorts, extra socks, bathing suit, and protective sun wear. All participants will get their own disc to take with them! |
